Workbench 3.1 adf files

LHA decompression is now available on your machine from the command line. LZX is another popular compression format used on the Amiga. There are a few versions floating around the internet and Aminet, the best version I have found is the Y2K patched version, complete with the keyfile.

LHA Extract the file contents to the Ram disk, from shell, navigate to the files location. MUI is one of those tools well libs really that is indispensable.

It is possible though that this version of MUI will auto install a keyfile for you. If not, the keyfile should reside in the S: folder. I decided to use my trusty Amiga to create the disks as it has an SD Card reader that makes transferring the files across from my PC a doddle. I started with the Workbench disk first, selecting it from the list of ADF files provided.

Double-clicking the name of the ADF loads the image into the software. Here we can see all the Amiga OS 3. Which loads up the disk creation window. I opted to both format and verify the disk. At this point it might be a good time to check that the disk you have inserted really is the one you want to use! And finally places a small black dot in it after the data has been successfully verified. A couple of minutes later a little box appears to confirm the disk has been created successfully.

The update disk was a separate download from the Workbench disks but is provided free for registered users. The extra disks needed. Amiga OS and Kickstart roms are licensed property and still sold commercially. It's also possible to dump required files on a real Amiga using tsgui to dump Amiga OS floppy disks to adf files and grabkick to dump Kickstart roms to rom files.

HstWB Installer started as a Workbench enhancement called HstWB and evolved into an idea about how prepared Amiga harddrive images ready for use could be shared publically for download without licenced Amiga OS and Kickstart roms files.

This formed a solution similar to ClassicWB, where a prepared Amiga harddrive image can be started and install required Amiga OS files during it's first time startup. Within short time this turned into a configurable way of automating installation of Amiga OS 3. To give users the choice of installing additional content on a freshly installed Amiga OS, the packages concept was introduced.

Workbench 3. Basics HstWB Installer comes with prepared image templates partitioned, formatted and ready to use for creating a new installation of Amiga OS.
